Rains disrupt normal life in Visakhapatnam
Vizag received around 9 cms of rainfall since Wednesday.
Visakhapatnam: The incessant rain since Wednesday night had thrown life out of gear across the city. Public suffered due to water logging at several parts of the city and many low lying areas were inundated. However, rains were seen as a refreshing relief from sultry scorching heat that has been bothering citizens since the last three months.
As per the government records Vizag received around 9 cms of rainfall since Wednesday and the rain is expected to continue for the next two days. Public suffered at Gajuwaka due to water logging in the main junction which led to traffic snarls and congestion. HRD minister Ganta Srinivas Rao held a video conference with all the mandal-level officers of the district on the precautions to be taken in the wake of the rains.
He asked the officers to shift those who reside in the coastal villages and low lying areas to the relief camps and cyclone shelters. He also asked them to keep the essential commodities ready to distribute them during any emergency. “Help lines should be in place in all the mandals and the officers should be on high alert round-the-clock for the next two days. Officials should ensure people are safe by shifting them to the shelters,” said the minister.
