Not only books, Satish is also good at bat, with cricket being his other favourite.
CHENNAI: Beating all financial odds, B. Satish from the Raj Kumar Sulochana School in Nanganallur, made his institution proud by scoring the first rank.
Son of a welder, Sathish, whose educational expenses are being taken by a philanthropist, scored 488 marks out of 500 in the 10th public exams.
The school management also added another feather to its cap with Satish's achievement since it was the institution which helped the poor kid continue his studies when his father found it very difficult to pay fees when he was in eighth standard.
"I wanted to score well to be able to thank everyone who has helped me. My Principal and R Narayanan sir (the philanthropist) and especially my parents who are still struggling to provide me good education," Satish told DC.
Though Satish had once decided to discontinue from his school due to financial constraints, he now aspires to be an engineer and is planning to opt for computer science and excel well in the stream.
Not only books, Satish is also good at bat, with cricket being his other favourite. His interests also include singing, reading books, gardening and sports.
Mohan Chandar, principal of the school, says, "We didn't expect him to excel so well as he had many obstacles his way, but he has made us all proud by putting in great efforts to prove himself."
Satish also mentioned that though he might have other challenges too, he is all ready to do his best and make his parents proud again.
