Tax breach: Tech parks, malls under lens
BBMP to carry out survey to check for violation in self assessment for property tax payment.
Bengaluru: BBMP will carry out total station survey at all the malls and IT-BT companies to ascertain if the declarations made by them under the Self Assessment System (SAS) for property tax payment is bona fide, said M. K. Gunashekar, Chairman, BBMP taxation and finance committee.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Gunashekar said that the survey will be taken up in phases and will begin from South, West, Bommanahalli and Yelahanka zones.
The survey will begin from next week and work order has been issued to carry out the work. The zonal joint commissioner, assistant revenue officer will monitor the survey, he added.
The city is the home for 71 malls and 77 tech parks. In the first phase, Brigade World Trade, Hotel Sheraton, Mantri Mall, Sumangali Properties, ETA mall, Metro Cash and Carry, Gopalan Malls will be taken up for survey in the West zone.
RMZ mall, Reva university, Manyata promoters in Yelahanka zone and Brigade Millenium, Kalyani Tech park, Kalyani Vesta, AMR Tech Park, Madhura Fashion, Maruthi Chambers, Meenakshi Mall, Crown Plaza in Bommanahalli zones will be subjected to the survey.
A decision on the buildings for the survey in South zone will be decided shortly.
The BBMP will not bow to any pressure during the survey, Gunashekar added.
He revealed that the BBMP has made a collection of Rs 675 crore until Thursday, and aims to collect Rs 1,000 crore by the end of May. For the corresponding period last year, the BBMP had collected Rs 459 crore.
