Telangana to get its own Ram leela Maidan'
With this the residents of Bowenpally will have a large lung space and a multi-utility ground.
Hyderabad: The defence estate office has given its nod to use the 100-year-old ground in Bowenpally as a public park, ‘Ram Leela maidan,’ measuring 3.180 acres. This land is located in GLR Survey number 482, Vacant land situated besides Shree Prasanna Hanuman Temple No 122 in GLR Survey number 481/177 at Picket Bazaar Cantonment, Secunderabad.
With this the residents of Bowenpally will have a large lung space and a multi-utility ground. Mr. Jetty Umeshwar Rao, General secretary of Picket Residents’ welfare society, explained, “The Picket Bazaar area (the 100-year-old ground) has been neglected for decades to avail of the benefits of the cantonment funds earmarked for development of the area.
“We have been repeatedly asking the SCB to protect and develop the available open lands in Picket bazaar before the land sharks grab the same. After years of pursuing and writing multiple letters to the Principal Director, Ministry of Defence, Southern command, the orders have been passed to develop the land as Ram leela Maidan.” The office of Defence Estates officer, TS & AP in its recent order, dated April 29th , 2017 stated, “As per records held by this office , land comprising GLR Survey number 482 admeasuring 3.18 acres is classified as B-4, placed under the management of DEO and described as the vacant land, the landlord is the central government.
“The merit of developing a public park or otherwise may be deliberated upon by the Cantonment board and if necessary, they may convey their views to the defense estate office for the consideration of the competent authority for reclassification.” Picket Bazar is a notified civil area of SCB. The cantonment board has been asked to propose a community hall or public park providing amenities related to street lighting, garbage bin and benches for residents.
