Chennai: The Madras High Court has ordered notice to the state government on a petition, seeking parole to Al Umma activist S.A. Basha, serving life sentence in Coimbatore prison for his involvement in 1998 Coimbatore serial bomb blasts.

A division bench comprising Justices V. Parthiban and P.D. Audikesavalu posted after four weeks, further hearing of the petition filed by Mubeena, daughter of Basha.

According to Mubeena, her father Basha was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by a trial court in connection with a murder case. While he was serving the life sentence, he was again arrested in connection with the 1998 serial bomb blasts case and was again sentenced to life by the special court for Bomb Blast cases, Coimbatore by a judgment dated August 1, 2007. Basha has served over 20 years in the prison since 1991. 

Now, Basha has to discuss with his family members for taking a decision in an important family affair, she has requested the prison authorities to grant a month's parole for his father, she added.
