Kozhikode: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has denied any links with the murder attempt against the CPM rebel C.O.T. Nazeer at Thalassery on Saturday.

“Nazeer has no merit even to be considered as a foe. He is not at all a threat to the CPM anywhere,” he told reporters here. None would take guns to kill a mosquito, he added.

Those close to Nazeer believe that CPM goons had been targeting him for the last many weeks after he filed his nomination from the Vadakara constituency.

Nazeer is a former CPM local committee member and former municipal councillor. His Facebook post and open rebellion against the CPM in Thalassery  had created trouble for the party.

In a Facebook post addressing Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Nazeer had said that a few local partymen had intervened to hold his passport at the police station to settle scores even after the court had ordered to release it. Sources close to Nazeer said that he had been a victim of a powerful section in the party ever since he became popular. His resort in Kasargod was attacked. His passport was held back to ensure his non-participation in a business meet in Sri Lanka in November last year.

He has not renewed his party membership since 2015 when he asserted that he could not fill a column in the membership form which asked for his religion.
