Palakkad: The alleged delay in acting on RDO's report to cancel reclassification of Parakkulam (pond) spread over 1.21 acres a few metres away from the collectorate as 'Garden Land' in 2008 has kicked up a row.

In the drought-prone district, 1,740 truckloads of sand have already been dumped to fill it up, and more than 5,000 loads are needed.

"It's after a lot of struggle and effort, anti-reclamation protesters took matters to this level. The collector could have stopped reclaiming the huge pond easily citing shocking violations by former RDO Anil Kumar and village officer T. P. Sanjayan in 2008," Youth Congress leader and green activist Boban Mattumantha said.

He said that according to details he had collected under RTI, in 2008, the Basic Tax Register (BTR) was changed without the order of the RDO for reclassification of land even mentioning to make any changes in BTR.
