Probe P Jayarajan, demands Muraleedharan
The attack against Nazeer is a serious matter, especially as he contested against Jayarajan, said Muraleedharan.
Thiruvananthapuram: Congress MLA and Vatakara UDF candidate K. Muraleedharan has demanded a comprehensive probe into the role of LDF candidate P. Jayarajan on the attack against CPM rebel candidate C. O. T. Nazeer there.
He told reporters here on Sunday that the attack would not have happened without the knowledge of Jayarajan.
"The attack against Nazeer is a serious matter, especially as he contested against Jayarajan," said Muraleedharan.
He also came down heavily on Kannur district secretary M. V. Jayarajan for his comment that Muslim women's veil should be removed while they cast their votes. Even BJP and RSS workers will not make such remarks against Muslim women, he said and added that the CPM leadership was facing saffronisation.
Nazeer, a former member of Thalassery corporation and a former local committee member of the CPM, had distanced himself from the CPM as he was not prepared to write his religion on the party membership form when it was due for renewal. The Congress feels that this might have triggered an attack on him by the CPM. Nazeer had apologised to former chief minister Oommen Chandy for hurling a stone at him during the UDF government’s tenure.
BJP state president P. S. Sreedharan Pillai demanded a CBI probe into the attack.
