WARANGAL: Despite risking their lives to treat those affected by the Coronavirus, the doctors at the MGM Hospital in Warangal are not provided with the equipment and facilities that they require.

Senior resident doctors who have been treating Covid-19 patients since the last 10 months complain that despite their frequent requests no one has addressed their issues.

The doctors allege that the hospital administration has failed to curb the oxygen flowmeter ‘scam’. Due to the insufficient number of flowmeters, grade four employees are involved in stealing, hiding and renting flowmeters to patients within the hospital.

Due to the non-availability of oxygen flowmeters and ventilators, several critically ill patients who have been referred to the MGM from private hospitals are not receiving emergency treatment. The duty doctors are facing the wrath of the kin of the patients if they succumb during treatment.

Several injections required for the treatment like broad spectrum antibiotics, dexamethasone, adrenaline/atropine, low molecular weight heparin are also not available.

In addition, the remdesivir injection required for critical cases is being administered to patients who are in a stable conditions due to recommendations secured from influential persons. Doctors say even though they are working at the ground level, they are not aware of who is receiving the vital injections.

Protective gear like NIV masks, NRBM/surgical/oxygen masks, N95 masks, PPE kits and gloves are also not being provided to the doctors.

The duty doctors also complain of the highly unhygienic condition prevailing in the hospital

Despite dedicating themselves to the service of the people, the doctors allege there is no clarity on how they would be treated in case they get infected.
