Hyderabad: Swachh volunteers for litter-free streets

Any CRP who completes the mission will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 10,000.

Hyderabad: The GHMC has appointed ‘Swachh Volunteers’ to keep a strict watch over people who littering, especially at community bins.

GHMC mobile courts that have been penalising violators for open defecation, illegal posters and hoarding will keep a vigil on those who litter. The Swachh Volunteers include civic officials, residents and shop keepers and employees. GHMC has identified and removed 1,116 garbage vulnerable points and has appointed 560 community resource persons to educate people on how to segregate dry and wet waste into two different bins.

Any CRP who completes the mission will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 10,000.

GHMC additional commissioner Ravi Kiran said the selection of the volunteers was going on. The department is yet to formulate the penalty amount for throwing garbage.
