Haritha vegetables for this Onam

The government had earlier sanctioned Rs. 3.06 crore to Kollam district for vegetable production under the vegetable development project.

Kollam: The Haritha Keralam Mission in association with the Kerala State Cashew Development Corporation and MGNREGA has initiated 'Onathinu oru muram pachakkari' programme to make the district self-sufficient in vegetable production for the season.

The programme was inaugurated by mission executive vice- chairperson T.N. Seema at a function presided over by KSCDC chairman S. Jayamohan at the corporation's factory at Kottiyam on Wednesday.

The government had earlier sanctioned Rs. 3.06 crore to Kollam district for vegetable production under the vegetable development project. With this, the district administration hopes to become self-sufficient in vegetable production by Onam.

Special clusters have been formed to implement systematic and timely cultivation of crops in the district.

As part of 'Oru muram pachakkari' project, 4.5 lakh seed packets worth Rs. 10 each will be distributed in the district spending Rs. 45 lakh. The agriculture department will distribute 10 lakh vegetable saplings in the for free.
