‘New houses for those hit by last year’s floods in Kodagu’
The state government has taken up construction of 431 houses in the first phase for these people.
Mysuru: Revenue Minister R.V. Deshpande on Wednesday, said new houses which will be ready at Karnageri, Kodagu by June end, will be handed over immediately to those affected by the floods and landslides in the district last year.

After visiting Makkandur, Hattihole and other places which were hit by the disaster in the previous year, Mr Deshpande reviewed the restoration, relief, and rehabilitation measures taken, and inspected houses built at Karnageri and other places. Speaking to media persons, he appreciated the relief measures taken up by the Kodagu district administration and said, “Construction of houses is almost complete except for some pending infrastructure work. I have directed officers to speed up the work and hand over the houses to victims as and when they are completed. Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation has built two bedroom houses at a cost of `9.85 lakh for the victims and the houses have come out really well,” he said.
During the meeting held with officers, he reviewed the work and even took certain officers to task on various issues raised by people's representatives.
Deputy Commissioner Ms Annies Kanmani Joy, Kodagu district minister Mr Sa Ra Mahesh, MLC Veena Achchaiah, MLA K.G. Bopaiah, Sunil Subramani, Appachu Ranjan and others participated in the meeting.
