Pithani Satyanarayana stresses on safety in industries

Visakhapatnam: Expressing displeasure over the management of several companies for ignoring the safety norms, labour and employment and factories minister Pithani Satyanarayana said that despite the instructions some industries have failed to follow the prescribed safety norms. Inaugurating the seminar on ‘Chemical Safety and Disaster Mitigation in Pharma Industry: Challenges and Opportunities’ here in Vizag on Wednesday, Mr Pithani Satyanarayana said that the companies which follow the safety measures will be able to compete in international business.
The minister pointed out that the industrial accidents in the region have been claiming the lives of employees and workers in pharmacy sector, he added. The two-day conference was initiated involving all the stakeholders including factories department, pharma firms’ management staff, workers’ unions and pollution control board officials to get a holistic understanding about the safety lapses in the sector.
Mr Pithani said Vizag was the hub of industries in Andhra Pradesh and North Andhra districts Srikakaulam and Vizianagaram have been housing nearly 3,200 industrial units and major role was being played by pharma companies, he added. “Giving top priority to safety would be the best way to resolve environmental pollution issues,” said member secretary Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board B.S.S. Prasad.
