Hyderabad: A 21-year-old girl student from the University of Hyderabad jumped from 15th floor of a residential building to end her life at Chandanagar. She was reportedly under depression for not clearing the varsity examinations, the police said. The deceased identified as S. Harshitha (21) was a resident of East Marredpally and was pursuing her second-year post-graduation in systems biology at UoH.

On Thursday, Harshitha attended the classes and was in the varsity till 12 noon. After that, she directly went to Serilingampally.

Chandanagar inspector N. Tirupati Rao said, “The student after attending the college went to the apartment in Serilingampally. She entered her details as a resident of a flat on the 14th floor and the watchman also did not give much attention to that. She went straight to the terrace and jumped from there.”

“The student failed in her semester examinations and was depressed about it. She was also said to have been undergoing psychiatric treatment,” said Miyapur ACP S. Ravi Kumar.

Harshitha also reportedly sent a message to her mother Anuradha stating that she again failed in the examinations seeking pardon from her.

The inspector said “We suspect that it could not be a first visit for the student to the apartment. The flat number she entered was actually under renovation and nobody lives there. The watchman thought Harshitha would be from the owner’s family to supervise the ongoing works. We are collecting more information about her activities.”

The body was recovered from the apartment and handed over to the family after conducting the autopsy at Gandhi Hospital on Thursday and a case of suspicious death has been registered for the probe, said the inspector.
