Kochi: CPM blames it on anti-socials
The secretariat which met at the AKG Centre here suspected that anti-socials might have intruded into class and mass organisations.
Kochi: The CPM state secretariat on Friday expressed concern over the turn of events in University College and the infiltration of anti-social elements in SFI.
The secretariat which met at the AKG Centre here suspected that anti-socials might have intruded into class and mass organisations. The incident involving the stabbing of an SFI activist by leaders of the organisation was unheard of and clearly hinted at the involvement of anti-social elements.
The secretariat had a detailed discussion on the University College stabbing incident and related developments that took place over the last week. It felt the need for serious introspection by the student organisation to weed out unwanted elements.
The party recommended measures to identify such elements in the class and mass organisations. It called for immediate action against such people.
However, the secretariat felt that there was a concerted attempt to tarnish the SFI and the CPM in the name of the issue. Despite the government and the SFI taking stringent action against the accused, certain organisations and political parties were trying to take advantage of the unfortunate incident and targeting the organization, it felt.
The party will organise a state-wide campaign to counter the vilification campaign against SFI and other left-led organisations. The organisations have been asked to take prompt action to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
The secretariat view comes close on the heels of severe criticism against the CPM district leadership at the committee meeting on Thursday. Despite getting a detailed complaint from a girl student who had attempted suicide, the district leadership failed to intervene and take corrective measures. This resulted in the situation going out of hand, it felt.
