Bengaluru: Wedding plan awry as hall pulled down
The reception is slated on Saturday and muhurtham on Sunday and parents of both bride and groom are worried.
BENGALURU: With just a day to go for wedding, the parents of the bride and groom were making all the arrangements for a big fat wedding at the Meenakshi Kalyana Mantapa. To their shock, the famous marriage hall was partly razed by the BBMP as it had encroached on a storm water drain. The dining hall was completely pulled down, thereby upsetting the marriage plans.
The reception is slated on Saturday and muhurtham on Sunday and parents of both bride and groom are worried.
C. N. Manjunath had booked the hall – Padmavathi Kalyana Mantapa, about six months ago for the marriage of his daughter with H. L. Yeshwanth, said H. D. Lingaraj, father of the groom. The other marriage hall, Meenakshi Kalyana Mantapa, was damaged for encroaching a drain.
“On hearing that the portion of the marriage hall where my son Yeshwanth’s marriage is slated is being bulldozed, I visited the spot and urged the authorities to provide a relief of two days. Even the manager of the marriage hall Nagaraj pleaded with the authorities. I understand that public were distressed and put to inconvenience due to recent floods, but the authorities could have given two days time,” Lingaraju said.
The marriage hall authorities convinced us that the demolished portion will be covered with beautiful pandal. Now that the building has been demolished, can they build the drain with equal hurry? About 3,000 people are expected to attend the wedding, he said.
The bride side too was worried and requested us to visit the spot and request the authorities to give some time. However, the pleas went unheard, he rued.
