Hyderabad: Vehicles booked for flouting rules
Heavy vehicles are allowed on the city roads only between 10 pm and 8 am.
Hyderabad: Hyderabad traffic police booked 49,156 heavy vehicles for entering city limits beyond the permitted time.
Police said that due to the restrictions on entry of certain categories of vehicles at peak hours, there had been a drop of 10 per cent in the number of accidents.
Heavy vehicles are allowed on the city roads only between 10 pm and 8 am.
Of the total, police said 13,425 vehicles had been penalised for entering ‘no-entry’ zones apart from 4,528 buses, 17,326 mini-lorries and 7,048 lorries.
A total of 6,829 vehicles were booked for disobedience of orders.
Additional commissioner of police, traffic, Anil Kumar said the police had conducted meetings with water tanker drivers and owners, private bus operators and private travels agencies to create awareness on road safety issues and restrictions on plying and parking.
“Due to strict enforcement under MV Act and implementation of laws the occurrence of accidents reduced remarkably by a margin of 10 per cent,” he said.
Additional commissioner of police said that the traffic police will ensure the safety of commuters and ensure hassle-free traffic movement by effective management to make the city roads free of accidents.
