Visakhapatnam: Collective efforts are needed to curb the spread of dengue, malaria and other seasonal diseases, said district collector Pravin Kumar. The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation has conducted an awareness programme on dengue for the sanitary staff, Anganwadi workers, ANMs, SLFs and others on Monday.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr Kumar gave a call to the public to keep their household and premises clean. “People should avoid water stagnation in or around the households and get rid of coconut shells, old tyres, etc. to avoid harbouring of mosquitoes,” said Mr Kumar. He also gave a call for observing every Friday as a dry day. “We would launch about 20 vehicles with each vehicle comprising a medical team to create awareness over dengue and other seasonal disease in the next 15 days. They would also test the blood samples of the suspected dengue patients,” Mr Kumar added.

GVMC Commissioner Hari Narayanan asked the attendees to create awareness about the spread of the disease in their respective wards and villages.  Dr Swarajya Lakshmi, District malaria officer Dr Prasad and others were present.
