Madras High Court to hear plea of 18 MLAs today
The Speaker had initiated action against them for withdrawing their support to chief minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami.
Chennai: A day after being disqualified by Speaker P Dhanapal, 18 MLAs belonging to the TTV Dhinakaran group approached the Madras High court challenging the notification. The Speaker had initiated action against them for withdrawing their support to chief minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami.
Appearing on their behalf, senior counsel P.R. Raman made an urgent mention before Justice M Duraiswamy, who directed him to file an affidavit regarding this. Raman submitted that the MLAs' Constitutional right to cast their votes in case of a floor test being held in the Assembly would be affected if their plea challenging their illegal disqualification was not heard on an urgent basis. The matter will come up for hearing on Wednesday.
