MB Patil welcomes decision of Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal
Patil said the Tribunal has vindicated the stand of Karnataka.
Bengaluru: Water resources minister M B Patil on Wednesday welcomed the decision of the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal to decline reallocation of the river water between the four riparian states—Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
While rejecting the plea of Telangana, the Tribunal observed that reallocation of water of the Krishna would not be possible, and the new state should share water with Andhra Pradesh in accordance with the order of 2010.
Mr. Patil said the Tribunal has vindicated the stand of Karnataka. Karnataka had made strong submission, opposing any move to reallocate water afresh. Such a decision of the Tribunal would help the state to complete pending projects in the Krishna basin, he said adding “Our counsels representing the state before the Tribunal had argued that reallocation of water should be confined to sharing of water between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana from the share allocated to the erstwile undivided Andhra Pradesh.”
