Bengalurus showcases waste issue

Mysuru: In a feast of  colour , music and dance as many as 42 tableaux and 1,600 folk artists  unravelled the rich culture, history and architecture of the state as part of the Jumbo Savari here on Friday.

Besides 118 cultural troupes performing 56 art forms like kunitha, keelu kudure, gaarudi gombe, hulivesha, and  kolaata, cultural troupes from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and Odissa , and a women's band from the Akkamahadevi Women's University of Vijayapura also made their way through the city, to the cheers of the crowds lining the 4.8 km route.  

Besides government departments, 30 districts came up with a tableaux of their own. While  Kodagu’s showed off its tourism destinations, the NCC tableau portrayed its role in helping the district limp back to normalcy after  its recent landslides and floods.  The Gadag tableau  based on the translocation of 500 trees from the national highway, drew much applause. The department of Kannada and Culture paid tribute in its tableau to the “navarathnas” of  the state, Dr Rajkumar, Dr Devi Shetty,  Shivakumara Swami, Veerendra Hegde, C N R Rao, Kuvempu, S Nijalingappa, Bheemsen Joshi and De Javaregowda.

While Bengaluru‘s tableau highlighted its efforts at segregating wet and dry waste and managing its solid waste, Davangere’s focused on its Smart City project.
