Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Friday gave a festive gift to its employees by announcing a 4 per cent hike in the Dearness Allowance (DA).

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik made the DA hike announcement for the government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) pensioners in the morning.

As per an official statement, the state government announced the release of 4 percent additional dose of Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (TI) in favour of State government employees and pensioners respectively to enhance the rate from 42 percent to 46 percent.

The enhanced DA and TI will be paid from July 1, 2023, retrospectively. The Odisha government officials informed that the DA hike will benefit 4.5 lakh state government employees and 3.5 lakh pensioners.

The Dearness Allowance (DA) for central government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) for central government pensioners was increased by 4 per cent by the Union Cabinet on October 18, 2023.

With the latest hike, DA for central government employees and DR for pensioners will be increased to 46 percent.

“The 4 per cent DA hike ahead of the Dussehra and Diwali is surely a gift for us. As the prices of grocery items, including edible oils; and vegetables have gone up, the DA hike would provide a great succor,” said Shradhanjali Nayak, a homemaker whose husband works with the state education department.
