Hyderabad: Rowdy's torture video goes viral; senior cops rush to jail
Victim and his friend were kept in custody and reported to be absconding in court by the cops, victim's mom alleged.
Hyderabad: Mohd Tanveer, alias Tannu, a rowdy sheeter who was detained by the SR Nagar Police for threatening a resident of Yellareddyguda, shot a video capturing injuries on his body that were allegedly caused by the cops and sent it to his mother. While the cops say that Tannu is absconding, the video has raised some eyebrows.
The video was shot by Tannu in the washroom of the police station. Senior police officials and the commissioner of police visited SR Nagar and ordered an inquiry into the incident after the video went viral on social media.
Tanveer’s mother Ishrath Begum said that her son left home on Wednesday to attend a friend’s birthday celebration. The celebration was cut short when cops arrived and beat them up for nearly an hour. Later, they were taken to the police station.
The next day, the cops allegedly forced one of the residents of the area to file a complaint so that they could book a case against Tanveer and 13 others.
“They kept my son and his friend Abid Bin Khaled in their custody and reported them as absconding in the court,” Ms Begum said. The police said that Tanveer and his friends had entered the property of a resident in an inebriated state and caused trouble on Wednesday night. Another resident came forward to say that Tanveer and his friends had stolen the CCTV camera set up outside his house; he even had footage to support his claims. “ Tanveer has previously been accused in 13 cases and detained once under provisions of the PD Act. He was convicted of theft in 2014”, an official said.
