Mysuru: Congress MLA, Tanveer Sait, who was seriously injured when a 25-year-old man stabbed him in the neck at a wedding here Sunday night, is out of danger, according to Dr Upendra Shenoy of Columbia Asia Hospital, where he is being treated, even as speculation rages over what motivated his attacker to knife him.  While the accused Farhan has not admitted to being part of any specific political party, the police are trying to establish if he was a member of either the SDPI or PFI.

Mysuru city police commissioner K.T. Balakrishna has suspended Mr  Sait’s gunman, CAR constable, Fyroz Khan for his failure to protect him.

Dr Shenoy said that Mr Sait had suffered deep cuts of eight to ten inches long, almost reaching his spine, on the left side of his neck and the lower lobe of his ear was cut. But following the long operation by a team of doctors, there was significant improvement in his health. “We were anxious about several parameters, including his kidney function yesterday, but all that has improved today. He is on oxygen, and even sat in a chair for a while. He is talking and we are giving him normal food. He may have to be in the ICU for at least two to three days as we need to prevent infections to the wounded area and his lungs.

The wound will take at least 10 to 15 days to heal. We are prepared to get experts from elsewhere or shift him to other centres for further treatment. But as of now nothing of that sort is required,” he added.

Meanwhile  the accused, Farhan Pasha , who was produced before a magistrate and sent to judicial custody for 12 days, had reportedly approached Mr Sait for a job several times and was frustrated. Going by sources, his friends have told the police that he wanted to become infamous by murdering a VIP , but had not specified whom. The police has also learnt that he  watched the Sanjay Dutt starrer, Vaasthav, a day before the incident.

Although he had  planned to escape in a car of his friends following the attack,  he tripped on a mat while fleeing and fell, and was caught by guests at the wedding. While Farhan has not admitted to being part of any specific political party, the police is trying to establish if he was a member of either the SDPI or PFI.

His family has vacated their house in Ghousianagar after the incident and  Mysuru city police commissioner, K T Balakrishna has  suspended Mr  Sait’s gunman, CAR constable, Fyroz Khan for his failure to protect him.

Former Speaker, Ramesh Kumar, and other leaders like A H Vishwanath, R Druvanarayan, and V Srinivasprasad visited Mr Sait in hospital on Tuesday.  Former minister, Roshan Baig, who visited him, said that his  father, Azeez Sait was his guru and the police must expose the conspiracy behind the attack on him.
