Torrential showers, landslips in Ooty: NMR train services cancelled till November 24
Torrential rains that lashed Coonoor for the past two days made things tough for residents here.
Ooty: The rain and train conflict is continuing in the famed Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR) as minor landslips and falling of boulders along the NMR track between Coonoor-Adderley sector forced suspension of NMR train services between Mettupalayam and Ooty till November 24.
Torrential rains that lashed Coonoor for the past two days made things tough for residents here. Though the disaster management teams could work effectively to restore the vehicle traffic along the Coonoor - Mettupa-layam road, the rains played havoc in the NMR track between Coonoor and Mettupalayam during the heavy rains on Monday evening in Coonoor slopes.
Sources said that there are minor landslips and falling of boulders on the train track in about dozen spots along the NMR track, especially, between the Runneymede and Adderly sector of the NMR. As the relief operations in this NMR sector, wherein there is hardly any access for vehicles, have become tough, the Salem division of the Southern Railway, suspended the NMR services till next Sunday. Railway field workers are sweating it out in the tough terrain to restore the track soon.
