Cash heist: Karnataka police team heads to Assam
The accused was identified as Ceaban Hussain Mazumder, who hailed from Assam.
Bengaluru: The Old Airport police, who are investigating the theft of Rs 20 lakh by a cash van driver, are still on the hunt for the elusive driver. A team will be sent to the home town of the accused in Assam as part of the probe.
Sources said that the police were, however, relieved that the stolen cash was found intact and only the arrest of the accused is pending in the case. “As the accused, Ceaban Hussain Mazumder, had abandoned the cash box fearing arrest, the recovery process of the stolen property, which is a big headache, is over. Now our focus is on arresting the accused. As he hailed from Assam, a team will be sent there to gather information about him,” an official said.
The police are not sure whether the accused has gone to his hometown. “We have checked with the railway authorities on the passengers who have traveled to Assam and neighbouring states. But as per our verification, he has not gone to Assam by train and also chances of him taking a flight is very less,” he said.
Meanwhile, it has also come to the notice of the investigator that the accused was not paid salary by the company after he joined there on November 10. “We are looking into the involvement of other staff as well in the case,” the official said.
