Hyderabad: Upset with TS Assembly Speaker Madhudhana Chary for toeing the “ruling party line”, the Telangana Congress is considering moving a ‘no-confidence’ motion against him.

TPCC chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and Deputy Floor leader T. Jeevan Reddy on Monday accused the Speaker of not even giving the Congress the opportunity to lodge a protest over tardy pace of investigation in gangster Nayeem case, failure to arrest ruling party leaders involved the episode and in making the gangster’s diary public.

“If this bias continues, we will have no option but to consider moving a no-confidence motion. Though he is a six-time MLA, the Speaker did not give chance to Jeevan Reddy to lodge a protest. The Speaker adjourned the House. It’s nothing but stifling democratic norms,” Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy said after the session.

He added, “It’s very unfortunate that the Speaker is toeing the ruling party line.” An equally furious Mr Jeevan Reddy said they have no option but to consider a no confidence motion against the Speaker. He said he had demanded the government make public Nayeem’s diary and action against TRS leaders and others involved in the episode.

“The name of Legislative Council Deputy Chairman has figured in the FIR, but no action was taken so far. Why? It’s clear that the government is biased,” Mr Jeevan Reddy alleged. The Congress legislators met the Speaker and lodged a protest. “Speaker promised to take appropriate steps next time. We will see,” said Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy.
