Gokulraj murder case: Key accused Yuvaraj causes flutter in court
On Tuesday, Yuvaraj and Arun were produced in the Namakkal court for extension of their remand.
SALEM: A key accused in the sensational Dalit youth Gokulraj murder case, Yuvaraj, caused a flutter in a court in Namakkal by indulging in heated exchanges before the judge when he was produced for extension of his judicial remand on Tuesday.
Yuvaraj, according to those present in the court, apparently shouted and argued with police officials and lawyers in front of the Judge in the Namakkal Principal Sessions Court, prompting the police personnel on duty to rush inside the court hall and pull him out of the court immediately.
It may be recalled that an engineering graduate Gokulraj from Omalur was found murdered at Thottipalayam near Pallipalayam in Namakkal district in June 2015, and his body found on a railway track, in what was suspected to be another case of ‘honour killing’ in the State as he was in love with an upper caste girl.
In connection with this murder, 17 persons including founder of the ‘Dheeran Chinnamalai Gounder Peravai’, Yuvaraj had been arrested by Thiruchengode police. While Yuvaraj had been lodged in Vellore central prison, his car driver Arun was detained in Salem prison. As many as 15 other accused in the case had been released on bail recently. A woman accused in the case has since died.
On Tuesday, Yuvaraj and Arun were produced in the Namakkal court for extension of their remand. Even as the judge extended their judicial remand period up to December 20, Yuvaraj suddenly went into an emotional outburst against the police officers and lawyers leading to some tense moments in the court hall. Yuvaraj had apparently also wanted to be let out on bail and resented extension of the judicial remand, sources added.
