​Bengaluru: CCB raids homes of rowdies, recovers crucial documents
Eight teams conducted simultaneous raids across city
Bengaluru: CCB sleuths on Wednesday raided the houses and offices of seven rowdies and habitual offenders in and around the city. Eight teams conducted the raids simultaneously and seized documents worth several crores, including property deeds, diaries and loan agreements.
According to the police, the raids were conducted to keep a check on criminal activities, especially land grabbing and illegal money-lending operations, of Sunil, Rohith, Vediyappa, Manjunatha, Bharath, Nagaraja and Jaya Kumar.
A senior officer said that majority of the rowdies in the city have shifted operations from ‘conventional’ crime to running money-lending business and grabbing land by encroachment and force.
The police recovered a licensed pistol and six rounds of ammunition from the house of Nagaraja. The documents showed that he had purchased 25 rounds of ammunition. A senior officer said that Nagaraja had a valid licence which was obtained in 2011, but still a probe is on to ascertain where the remaining 19 rounds were used.
The police also recovered an air gun from the house of Bharath, who has been taken into custody.
29-year-old woman held for trafficking
The CCB police arrested a 29-year-old woman on charges of human trafficking and prostitution for bringing girls from other states on the pretext of getting them jobs in the city and forcing them into prostitution. The accused, Neelam Sharma, had rented out a house in Kamakshipalya where she had kept the girl and was planning to force her into prostitution. Based on a tipoff, the police raided the house on Magadi Main Road on Tuesday and rescued the girl from Uttar Pradesh. The police said that Neelam, with the help of an agent, brought girls from other states to the city by promising them to get good jobs and later forced them into prostitution to known customers. The Kamakshipalya police have registered a case.
