Hyderabad HC stays panchayat's staff appointments
The court directed the government to not issue appointment orders but permitted it to go ahead with the selection process.
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday restrained the state government from issuing appointment orders to 9,355 persons who were selected as junior panchayat secretaries.
Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao, dealing with an urgent petition by Mr B. Harish Kumar and some other candidates, stayed the handing over of letters days before the process was about to begin. The petitioners alleged the selection was conducted in a non-transparent manner.
Mr Rahul Reddy, counsel for the petitioner, told the court that the panchayat raj commissioner had announced the results without publishing the merit list.
The selection list was in the ratio of 1:1 with only hall ticket numbers of the selected candidates, showing an undue haste for verification of certificates of the candidates. The petitioner said the commission had not released the a final key of the written exams, and that the rule of reservations had exceeded the specified quota of 50 per cent.
The court directed the government to not issue appointment orders but permitted it to go ahead with the selection process.
