Hyderabad: There is a need to adopt various strategies to reduce the effect on coastal infrastructure during cyclones, experts suggested at HYDRO 2019 held in the city on Thursday.
A study in this regard has been taken up by scholars from IIT Madras, including senior proffessors Mr B.S. Murthy and Mr S.A. Sannasi Raj since 2018.
The research was started to study the implications of climate change driven extreme changes in coastal regions. Experts are evaluating the vulnerability of coastline infrastructure like ports fishing harbors etc and are aiming to propose Suitable adaptation measures for coastal infrastructure.
Effective water resource management techniques should be adopted, experts felt. The experts underlined the need to gear up for future eventualities arising out of climate and adopt short and long-term measures for coastal monitoring. Ecological and infrastructural strategies should be adopted to counter the effects of climate change, the experts suggested at the HYDRO 2019 event.
