Bhadrakali bund works yet to be completed
The tank serves as the drinking water source for Warangal city and surrounding areas.
Warangal: The works of the Bhadrakali tank bund which is said to be developed under the Smart City mission and HRIDAY schemes have not been moving forward as expected. The Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation has allocated Rs 14.50 crore in 2015 with a plan to develop it along the lines of Hussain Sagar tank bund in Hyderabad. During the same year, the tank was selected to be revived under the Mission Kakatiya program to increase its capacity. Funds to the tune of Rs 4.5 crore were also sanctioned. However, these works never took off.
The tank serves as the drinking water source for Warangal city and surrounding areas. When the Mission Kakatiya works are to be conducted, the tank was filled with water through the Devadula project for the drinking water needs. As a result, the works could not be done.
The tank located behind the Bhadrakali temple in Warangal provides a beautiful environment and scenic view for the devotees.
According to the proposals, the Bhadrakali tank’s bund from Jaya Nursing School near Padmakshigutta till Bhadrakali temple is to be expanded to be 100 feet wide road. The works of expansion and strengthening of the shore are going on at a snail’s pace since two years. Due to the delay in the works, the section of the bund which was strengthened using gravel has developed cracks.
GWMC commissioner Sruthi Ojha said the works could not be completed for several reasons but they have picked up pace currently. She said works related to greenery points, landscaping, drainage lanes etc are in progress.
“Apart from these, the works related to the roads under smart city scheme are also in progress. These roads include Padmakshi temple to Hunter Road, Kapuwada Road, GWMC Road and the link road connecting Bhadrakali bund,” she said.
We will be reviewing the works with the concerned engineers and contractors at regular intervals and see that the works are completed without any further delay,” she said.
