LRS funds boost up civic works in Nizamabad

Rs 2 crore will be spent on parks and works worth '3 crore will be taken up soon in the wards.

Nizamabad: Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS) funds have been boosting up civic amenities in municipal towns of undivided Nizamabad district. 

In spite of the funds of the 14th Finance Commission, general fund and plan grants, the Telangana state government has directed all urban local bodies to utilise the LRS funds for local requirements. 

Nizamabad municipal corporation, Bodhan, Armoor and Kamareddy municipal councils have begun spending the funds for civic works such as solving drinking water issues, repairing roads, drainages and for works in parks. 

Officials of the Nizamabad municipal corporation and Councillors of municipalities have proposed various works with these special funds. 

Nizamabad mayor Akula Sujatha said that Rs 13.42 crore LRS funds will be utilised for various works in the town. “All 50 municipal divisions in the town will get Rs 20 lakh each for drain and road works,” she said. “'2.50 crore will be allotted for setting up new electrical poles, “ she added. 

“Tenders will also be finalised for doing works with LRS funds soon,” Ms Sujatha said. “The municipal corporation had already received Rs 100 crore special funds for developmental works and LRS funds boosted the works,” she explained. 

In Kamareddy municipality, Rs 5 crore from LRS funds are being utilised to develop parks, repair roads and drainages. Rs 2 crore will be spent on parks and works worth Rs 3 crore will be taken up soon in the wards. 

In Bodhan, '1 crore fund from the LRS will be utilised for borewells, and electricity. Municipal chief A. Yellaiah directed the officials to clear arrears of borewells and electricity bills. 

He discussed with the officials regarding the proper utilization of LRS funds.
