Footpath encroachment clearance in core areas
Deputy Chief Minister Dr G. Parameshwar expressed his dissatisfaction over inaction by the civic body.
Bengaluru: Over the last two days, the BBMP has been demolishing encroachments on footpaths at Mahadevpura and Yelankha zones. While the drive has been taken up on the outskirts of the city, BBMP officials said that it will soon cover North, South, West and East zones in the core areas of the city.
A top BBMP official said, “It has become difficult for pedestrians to walk on footpaths as they have been encroached. In his meeting with top BBMP officials, Deputy Chief Minister Dr G. Parameshwar expressed his dissatisfaction over inaction by the civic body. He asked all of us to use all our powers to curb the menace. We prepared an action plan in December and are putting it into action now.”
As per the directions of BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad, all the joint commissioners and zonal chief engineers have to draft action plans. Police Commissioner Suneel Kumar too has agreed to extend cooperation for the drive, he said.
