TD men in a flux over Amaravati master plan
The legislators said they were not able to face the heat from landowners affected by the APZ rules.
Vijayawada: TD legislators fear that they would face defeat in the 2019 elections if the tough provisions of the Amaravati capital city master plan, which are drawing flak from locals, are implemented in their current form.
Legislators from Vijayawada and elsewhere in Krishna district, speaking at an awareness meet here on Saturday, wanted CRDA officials to dilute some of the provisions.
The legislators wanted withdrawal of the agriculture protection zone rules, which bar constructions 500 metres outside villages, towns and cities.
The legislators also objected to the alignment of the outer and inner ring road projects, which are expected to affect many villages.
TD MPs Kesineni Srinivas and Konakalla Narayana, MLAs Gadde Rammohan, V. Vamsi Mohan, Bode Prasad, and MLC Y. Rajendra Prasad participated in the meeting.
The legislators said they were not able to face the heat from landowners affected by the APZ rules. They were not even able to attend marriages or private functions without being questioned by affected persons, they said.
Mr Rammohan said land values had gone down in villages located on the city outskirts due to the APZ rules.
“Landowners and farmers should be able to use their own lands as per their wish, and this power should not be curbed by rules,” he said.
