The Telangana state was formed 43 months ago but food security cards have yet to be issued to beneficiaries of the public distribution system.

The government’s decision to stop supply of foodgrains to more than 4.5 lakh families through fair price shops due to non-linking of ration cards to Aadhar cards in Belagavi region was questioned by MP, Prakash Hukkeri at a review meeting in Belagavi on Monday.

He questioned how foodgrains intended for ration card holders was withheld in the name of linking Aadhaar cards and wondered where the stocks of foodgrains had disappear if it was withheld. Responding to the MP's doubts, Deputy Commissioner N Jairam said the government had decided to link Aadhaar to ration cards only with an aim to plug illegal business. However, Mr Hukkeri said, rations were not allotted to the needy in January and December in seveal places as officials concerned in taluks failed to ensure that Aadhaar card was linked to ration cards. He slammed the district administration asking them not to create stories to justify the government's stand.
