HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday directed the Telangana government authorities to provide milk made from lactogen powder to infants and children in Shishu Grihas of the state run under integrated child protection scheme, instead of tetra milk.

A division bench, comprising acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice K. Vijaya Lakshmi, was dealing  a PIL filed by Balala Hakkula Sangham, represented by its president P. Achyuta Rao, challenging the action of the Union of India and Telangana government in not taking action against the authorities responsible for deaths and selling of many children in Shishu Grihas of the state.

The bench asked S. Sharath Kumar, special counsel for the government, whether there were any child deaths in the Grihas as averred by the petitioner.

When the counsel replied in negative, C. Damodar Reddy, counsel appearing for the petitioner, submitted that two deaths were reported and they had already filed FIRs with the affidavit.

Reacting to the submission of the petitioner’s counsel, the bench directed the government counsel to place the details of deaths reported so far and action taken in this regard, within a week.
