Idukki district cooperative bank plans adalat for flood victims
A total of 124 flood-hit people have approached the bank demanding relaxation in the loans.
KOTTAYAM: The Idukki district cooperative bank will hold adalats for those who have taken loans and who have sustained losses in the floods last year.
The adalats will be organised at Kattapana, Adimaly, Cheruthony, Thodupuzha and Vandip-eriyar for about 3,000 people on February 25 and 27 and March 1, 2 and 5.
The bank will consider the cases under the government scheme ‘Kani-vu’ and ‘Navakeraleeyam.’

"The bank board has decided to study each in-dividual case," bank general manager P.R. Rajesh told DC.
The bank will write off the loans or relax the repayment depending on the severity of the damage. It had previously written off the loans of a few of its customers who suffered heavy losses in the floods.
According to the 2011 census, 95.6 per cent of the population here dep-end on agrarian economy. As per the Idukki district administration, 1, 535 houses were destroyed, 3,061 suffered damage and 11, 530.64 hectares of crops were lost since May last year.
