Hyderabad: After a two-year lull owing to the Covid pandemic, inter-collegiate and youth literary festivals are back with a bang. And how.

The Young Orators Club of Secunderabad (YOCS), one of the city’s most reputed oratory and literary club set the ball rolling with their fest, ‘Wits & Words’, to be held in collaboration with the University College of Arts and Social Sciences.

The much-awaited fest will have five events to challenge students’ wits through words and ideas. Aligned to our creed,  'Cogitas Veritas', which means think truthfully, the competitions would be held in — group discussion, debate, quiz, essay writing and elocution and JAM (just a minute).

"The events at YOCS fest are sure to engage and encourage critical thinking and public speaking," said Anam Aamer, president of YCOS.

Over 250 students from across the city are expected to battle it out with words on February 26, from 9 am to 5.30 pm at the University College of Arts and Social Sciences, Osmania University, at the YOCS annual event.

Three winners from each of the five categories will walk home with exciting cash prizes. The last date to register for the event is Thursday, February 23.

One can log onto their website www.ycos.in or via https://linktr.ee/WitsandWordsLiteraryFest.

YOCS hopes to organise more events such with schools and colleges in the days to come, intending to cultivate a culture of public speaking amongst youngsters.

Founded in 1969, YOCS has been home to thinkers and orators from different walks of life at their weekly sessions held, and comprises lively debates, discussions and elocutions, where topics related to politics, philosophy, science and technology etc.

The YOCS, which meets on Saturday evenings at the YMCA, Secunderabad, also encourages members and guests to read books. The sessions of the club are open to everyone and free of cost.
