Maths proves a problem for Class X also

KOCHI: Close on the heels of the widespread complaints about ‘tough’ Class XII maths CBSE board exam, students who attended the Class X board maths exam on Saturday too have come out with complaints that they were given a tough question paper.
Some of the students in Kochi said that it was a lengthy question paper which required more time to answer than the allotted three hours. Some others said that the questions that carried three and four marks were the toughest one and most of them were indirect questions.
“At a time when discussions are going on everywhere to lessen the burden on children why the CBSE is going this way. Some of the students are fearful of failing in the exam. They are now fearful of opting it for further studies,” said a parent preferring not to be named.
As per the CBSE Class X exam mark pattern, the final board exam carries 30 marks out of 100 marks which come as Summative Assessment-II. The Summative Assessment-I carries another 30 marks while Formative Assements I,II, III and IV carry 10 marks each.
The students have the option of appearing for school-based and board- based exam for Class X. With a majority of students shifting to state stream and other boards appear for board-based exam as shifting is not allowed through school-based exam.
