ECI circular confuses MLAs of Telugu states
To update its data, the ECI sent a circular to all states asking the Chief Electoral Officers to send details of Assembly constituencies.
Hyderabad: An Election Commission of India circular, seeking details of Assembly constituencies has created confusion among political parties, especially the parties ruling the two Telugu states.
To update its data, the ECI sent a circular to all states, including TS and AP, asking the Chief Electoral Officers to send details of Assembly constituencies.
The CEOs were asked to give details like the number of villages in each constituency, number of towns, the population, and wards in each municipality in each constituency.
In turn, the CEOs sent the circular to all district collectors, seeking the details.
The political parties in the two states, which are expecting delimitation of Assembly constituencies, jumped to the conclusion that the details being sought were for the delimitation process.
The circular led to leaders making enquiries with the Election Commission officials. Meanwhile, V, Venkateswara Rao Additional Chief Electoral Officer, said that the circular issued by central election commission has nothing to do with delimitation of Assembly constituencies.
Speaking to this newspaper he said to update the data, the ECI issued the circular to all states, not only AP and TS. The updated data will be used by ECI as and when needed, they said.
