Hyderabad: A Class IX girl from Moinabad committed suicide by setting herself ablaze three days ago. She was depressed after her parents had warned her to stop talking to her Physical Education Teacher (PET) for long hours on the phone. However the investigations revealed shocking facts.
The police, who had earlier booked a ‘suspicious death’ case, found that the PET Bollu Prashanth, 23, had lured her and had even sexually assaulted her a couple of times during the past three months. The police altered the case to ‘rape and abetment to suicide’ and as per the Pocso Act arrested Prashanth on Tuesday.
Moinabad inspector S. Sunitha said that the girl, 15, was active in sports in the school and being a PET, he had easy access to the students.
Three months ago, he lured her and even gave her a mobile phone, so that she could be in constant touch with him. Her parents claimed that he had been harassing her to maintain relations with him.
Investigations revealed that he had taken the girl to a nearby park and had sexually assaulted her. The girl went out on Sunday on the pretext of visiting a temple and went out with him and returned home by noon, to avoid any suspicion.
“We have analysed the text conversations between the girl and the accused. The SIM card in the girl’s mobile was also registered under his name. Though he claimed innocence, he later admitted to his role,” the inspector said.
Based on his confession, the case was altered and he was sent to judicial remand.
