Heatwave claims nearly 40 lives in Telangana

The government will give Rs 1 lakh compensation to families of victims under the Apathbandhu scheme. District collectors have submitted reports to the government on the heatwave deaths after inquiry by three-member committees in mandals.
SDMA official sources said the death toll was based on reports submitted by the collectors. Ten people died in Karimnagar district, the highest in a single district. There were four deaths each in Nagarkurnool and Khammam and three in Bhadradri district.
Two deaths each occurred in Kamareddy, Mahbubnagar, Manche-rial and Ranga Reddy districts.
Asifabad, Mahbuba-bad, Medchal, Siricilla, Sangareddy, Suryapet, Wanaparthy, Warangal urban and Warangal rural reported one death each.
The maximum temperature in these areas has touched nearly 45 degrees celsius. The three-member committees comprise local mandal revenue officer, sub-inspector of police, and a medical officer, who will inquire into the heatwave deaths in each mandal and submit the report to the government.
