In a first, Pondycherry celebrates civil service day
Officials should give maximum priority to education, health and welfare schemes and should spend government money as their own funds.
Puducherry: Puducherry celebrated a civil service day for the first time on Friday. Inaugurating the celebrations here Lt Governor Kiran Bedi urged the officials to work in coordination and go for field visits.
"Officials should give maximum priority to education, health and welfare schemes and should spend government money as their own funds", she said
"Politicians will be there in power for five years, but this is not the case of officials and hence, they should function with honesty and courage", she added
Congratulating the chief secretary for making efforts to celebrate civil service day and awarding selected outstanding officers, the Lt Governor said that when public officials do their duty with sincerity, public services get delivered to the people in need.
"Public servants must never forget that they are given security of service to serve fearlessly, honestly and effectively. All three qualities when applied in conjunction people get holistically served, " she said
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy said that the officials should understand that they are functioning for people."Politicians can serve in the position only when they have the support of the people, This is not the case with officials.
They should understand this and work accordingly", he said. The Lt. Governor and Chief Minister presented Commendation Certificates to 11 officials for their good performance at the function. Senior officials of the administration, including Chief Secretary Ashwani Kumar and Finance secretary V. Candavelou attended the function among others.
