Election Commission tells Eros Now to take down web series on PM Modi

New Delhi: The Election Commission on Saturday asked Eros multimedia to stop “till further orders” online streaming of a web series on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Citing an April 10 order, the poll panel directed banning a biopic on Mr Modi. On the said date, the commission had placed a similar bar on the web series titled “Modi —Journey of a Common Man”.
“In view of the admitted facts and material available on record, this web series being an original web series on Narendra Modi, the PM and a political leader and a prospective candidate in the current general polls to the LS, cannot be exhibited,” the EC said in its order.
The series tells story of Narendra Modi’s life from when he was 12 years old to the time he became the Prime Minister of India.
While episodes of the web series were already aired on April 3 before the first phase of polling, the remaining five episodes have been ordered to be removed from Eros Now’s digital platform.
In its order staying the release of the biopic, the polls panel had said, “Any biopic material in the nature of biography/ hag-iography subserving the purposes of any political party or any individual entity connected to it, should not be displayed in electronic media.”
