KOCHI: Jose Maveli, the founder and chairman of the Jana Seva Shishu Bhavan (JSSB), has decried the government action to take over the institution and said it was not involved in any illegal activity. The JSSB has no objection to the children of other states being repatriated to their home state but the the government’s decision to take it over will only help in disrupting the education and well-being of the children.
“All the children are being taught in the Malayalam medium schools and they would find it difficult to pursue education in other languages in their native places,” Mr Maveli told DC. Meanwhile, acting chairman of the Kerala State Human Rights Commission P. Mohanadas on Sunday inaugurated a protest meeting by the supporters of JSSB at the Gandhi Square near Rajendra Maidan in Kochi on Sunday.
Speaking after inaugurating the protest, Mr Mohanadas said the action of the Ernakulam Child Welfare Committee (CWC) was unjustified. The working of the CWC should give priority to the protection of the interests of the children, he said, and added that the failure to do so will be challenged in the district and high courts.
