For safety’s sake, repair doors of buses: Forum
The petition said that the front and back doors were damaged in most buses.
Coimbatore: Members of Coimbatore-based Consumer Awareness and Protection Association (CAPA) led by president N. R. Ravishankar, reportedly submitted a petition to the managing director of the TNSTC here in Coimbatore, urging him to take immediate steps to operate Semi-Low Floor (SLF) buses in closed and good condition.
The petition said that the front and back doors were damaged in most buses. “It is a common sight of doors in SLF buses left open. In a haphazard work, doors in these buses are welded to main pillars near the footboard or in many cases tied to some supporting posts using thick ropes, preventing movement. In some cases, instead of repairing damaged ones, large stones are placed near doors to prevent them from shaking, Under these conditions, passengers travel without safety. The very purpose of doors in SLF buses is not served, forcing passengers to travel on footboard without any safety,” the petition added.
