Fight intensifies for creation of Jangaon
Rasta Roko blocks Warangal-Hyderabad highway for two hours.
Warangal: Traffic on the Warangal-Hyderabad National Highway came to a halt for more than two hours as Jangaon district JAC members held a massive rasta roko at the Jangaon junction here on Monday. Leaders of all Opposition parties, student unions, Bar association members, lorry driver unions and many others gathered at the Jangaon junction on Monday. Lorries were used to block the highway on all four sides. Repeated warnings by the police failed to move the protesters who raised slogans against the government demanding separate Jangaon district.
While the police tried to force the protesters from the road there was heated exchange of words between both the parties. During the chaos, some of the student union leaders were pushed away by the police and this further agitated the student unions. The police managed to get the protesters off the road after they were told that they are causing inconvenience to the road users.
JAC chairman Arutla Dashmanth Reddy said they would hold a protest in Jangaon on Tuesday evening by turning off the lights in the houses for one hour. “Our agitation will continue till the state government declares Jan-gaon as a district. Jangaon has witnessed many agitations in history. Jangaon was a hot bed during the agitation for Telangana. We will achieve Jangaon district in the same way we achieved the separate state. Jangaon meets all the criteria to be a district but CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao is not letting this happen for his own gains,” he said. Protesting against the police misbehaviour with them during the rasta roko, the student unions have called for a bandh of all educational institutions on Tuesday.
