SRINAGAR: B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, an IAS officer of 1987-batch, has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, replacing B.B. Vyas, who will now serve as an advisor to Governor N.N. Vohra.
Soon after the state was brought under the Governor’s rule on Wednesday morning, the Centre posted Mr Subra-hmanyam, who was serving as additional chief secretary (home) in Chhattisgarh, to Jammu and Kashmir.
A statement issued by Raj Bhavan here later during the day said Mr Subrahmanyam, who is a resident of Andhra Pradesh, has been appointed as the chief secretary of the state by Governor.
Mr Subrahmanyam, considered an expert in internal security matters, has served as private secretary to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during 2004-2008. He also worked with the World Bank during June 2008 and September 2011 before joining again the Mr. Singh-led PMO in March 2012. He was in the PMO after Mr. Modi became the Prime Minister in May 2014. He stayed in the PMO till March 2015 and then moved to his cadre state Chhattisgarh.
