SCTIMST to launch 3 big projects

The phase 1 of Combinational Devices Block is the second major project coming up at a cost of Rs 50 crore.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Three major projects will be inaugurated by Union science and technology minister Dr Harsh Vardhan at the Sree Chitra Institute of Medical Science and Technology (SCTIMST) on Saturday.

The projects include 170-bed Swasthya Surakahsa Block, a new Combinational Devices Block and Regional Technical Resource Centre for Health Technology Assess-ment. The Swasthya Suraksha Block being constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, is coming up on 83.4 cents of land adjacent to the current hospital wing of the institute. It is expected to be completed by March 2020. The new block will have modern operation theatres, ICUs, step down wards and pay wards. The installation and commissioning of medical equipment will be completed by June 2020.

Super-specialty services in cardiac and neurological disorders will be available to people at the new block. SCTIMST expects to cater to an additional 10,000 in patients, 15,000 outpatients and 1.5 lakh review OP cases annually. The new hospital block being constructed at a cost of '300 crore.

The phase 1 of Combinational Devices Block is the second major project coming up at a cost of Rs 50 crore. The new block being set up with the support of department of science and technology, is aimed at boosting biomedical device development and devices testing in the Institute. The block with 8 floors and a built-up area of 11,469 sq.m, it will provide a state-of-the-art research facility for product development and testing. It would cater to both testing and research .

The Centre has granted a three year project to Achu-tha Menon Centre for Health Science Studies for developing a Regional Tec-hnical Resource Centre for Health Technology Assessment to cover Kerala and neighbouring states. The main task of the centre is to undertake health technology assessment and inculcate skills in this emerging discipline.

Data Centre: The Institute has set up a state-of-the-art Data Centre to host a group of servers, storage and networking units for providing round the clock IT services to meet the institute’s
needs.

The centre will be inaugurated by union minister on Saturday.
